Phase 1: The Multimodal Language and Literacy Narrative Assignment

Cover Letter

Phase 1 introduction to narratives has given me an insight to structure and impact of personal narrative, as most of my literature reading have been either fictional or non-fictional bodies of work. Some parts of personal narratives that strike as important are the audience, purpose and context. In Amy Tan’s personal essay the audience was truly broad, students in New York city come from many backgrounds and experience difficulties with cultural assimilation. The audience of these narratives are college students, who may have gone through an experience of forming the mindset to complete an essay or a project, some of my audience may still have this ongoing experience. Purpose played a rhetorical role in entertaining and informing my readers, as reading “Theme for English B” by Hughes, Langston, provided how a purpose of a narrative should be structured, his purpose was to express his professor if he should consider the colour of skin as part of his identity. This personal narrative explores the complexities of how to think when I approach research or project assignment, the reader may find that I have difficulty regarding one idea as a process of work to expand, but is always searching for topics through the observations in my environment. Presenting vivid descriptions has provided some imagery and clear understanding of transitions between paragraphs, this enhanced the understanding of how the atmosphere of high school will be perceived for any of my audience who may have graduated from high school.
